374 Infinity Tumbles

Max Marien sets new world record on THRILLER2k12

Tuningen. The US Pilot Max Marien has made a new world record doing infinity tumblings with the THRILLER 2k12:  he reached 374 loopings on his attempt at the Californian coast.

The so far last valid record was set to 284 tumbles by Hernan Pitoccio who started from 6000m. Marien jumped from a helicopter from Torrey Pines Glider Port in San Diego. At 4830 meters he started out of the deployment bag. During the world record attempt Marien didn’t count the loopings, “I realized the number when we counted them on the ground on the Gopro.”

His first thought after landing was that a starting from a heli is pure fun, “I want to do it again!” The 24 year old flight instructor made first flying experiences in his youth. The breakthrough in the acro szene attained when U-Turn-team member Nova Dasalla borrowed him his THRILLER and supported him with hints. “I tried earlier acro tricks but didn’t succeed with my old glider.”

Marien got himself a THRILLER 2k12 in size 18 and pulverized at first attempt the existing record- and this from far less altitude. “An insane good job“, finds Vosseler, “doing 374 tumblings it comes to the point when stamina and concentration are over. That is not only kindness, I thank from the bottom of my heart Thomas and Ernst that they made such a fantastic glider”, says Marien.
