Villingen-Schwenningen. The FREE FORCE by U-Turn is now available as “new edition” in a fresh, trendy design and the new U-Turn-claw. Furthermore, the canopy is now equipped with the newest Dyneema lines, which optimized extension behavior gives the glider an extra portion agility. Therefore the very agile canopy is more than ever a must-have for those trying to practise acro-figures.
With the new design the FREE FORCE appears even more dynamic. The FREE FORCE has the identical ground plan as its successful, elder brother G-FORCE, but its aspect ratio is so far subdued by the designer Ernst Strobl, that the conferral of the seal of quality was assured.
There is even more: due to the employment of the automatic flight stabilisation (AFS) the canopy was awarded, despite tremendous performance in many fields, the safety of the DHV-assessment 1-2.
"FREE FORCE stands for a lot of fun whilst flying. By means of the manoeuvrability and agility, similar to the G-FORCE, connected with safety supplies of the AFS, the FREE FORCE is the perfect glider for all those who want to start acro-gliding" Strobl marks an area of employment.
At the same time the long-haul pilot can look forward to this first DHV-2 glider with AFS-system. Although the FREE FORCE has only a small cap, it craves for altitude in the thermal. With a top speed of more than 56 kilometres per hour one is very agile en route and the AFS-system makes sure with many little, automatic corrections that FREE-FORCE pilots always achieve the maximum altitude on trips.
The FREE FORCE new edition is available in sizes 22, 24, and 26 in the attractive colour combinations. The canopy is in stock
Of course there had been long discussions whether to employ the AFS-system in a DHV-2-wing or not when the new canopy was introduced. But now, after the prove of value, as expected, the AFS is still on board in the new edition. Because the system offers a lot of advantages.
To talk about acro-gliding: The FREE FORCE is available in sizes 22, 24 and 26, and thanks to the ground plan that is identical to the G-Force, this canopy also goes about it with tremendous dynamics.
Dynamic figures such as spirals and loops work in an easy way; here the unrivalled performance equipment is set to activate when and if required. "The AFS-system is not activated during dynamic manoeuvres, as the pressure inside the wing prevents an intervention" Strobl explains.
With regard to figures such as the MacTwist, it is a different matter. If the pilot misses the break moment, the AFS starts slowing down the canopy automatically, so the shooting forward and with this the reaching of a potentially dangerous flying situation are prevented. "Because of the very sporty interpretation of the guidelines I could boost the pre-tensioning much better with the FREE FORCE in contrast to our beginners glider the BODYGUARD" Strobl illustrates. The effect is equivalently noticeable. However at no time does the system prevent the pilot from learning the figures: Someone who brakes on time feels nothing from the AFS and this does not only apply to the MacTwist, but also to further figures.
"All 44 cells of the FREE FORCE are endowed with the AFS-system" Strobl explains. To draw a comparison one can say that with the BODYGUARD only the ten outer cells are automatically slowed down at a time. "Here it is not so much a question of the folding stability than of the prevention of the shooting forward."
To summarise, a pilot who is looking for a glider with which will give him a taste of real acro-gliding like the professional pilots while still giving a mainly mistake-forgiving flight need look no further than the FREE FORCE.
To talk about long-haul-flight one can say that although the glider has a relatively small area, there is always something going on with it in the thermal. Ascending is no problem for the FREE FORCE and once up there the canopy has a minimum sink of 1.1 metres per second. During long-haul-flight the AFS-system also becomes positively apparent, the system constantly corrects small turbulences by braking automatically. Theoretically this occurs with some at reduction of speed, however the FREE FORCE is amply blessed with velocity. With 38-39 kilometres per hour (trim) an 53 – 56 km/h accelerated (full area load), the canopy cannot deny its origins i.e. the very dynamic G-FORCE. With the FREE FORCE it is no problem for pilots to decelerate because the minimum speed comes to 23 kilometres per hour on average.
To sum up, the use of the AFS-system benefits in regard to the air safety by means of an improved collapse stability for beginners, even the constructors of powerful gliders are impressed by the system. FREE FORCE means having lots of fun and performance coupled with a high level of security.
